JOHN, Gwen
Bu Gwen John yn mynychu Ysgol Gelfyddyd Gain y Slade yn Llundain rhwng 1895 a 1898, a bu'n astudio am gyfnod byr ym Mharis. Ym 1903, aeth gyda Dorelia McNeill ar daith gerdded trwy Ffrainc. Erbyn dechrau 1904, roedd wedi ymsefydlu ym Mharis. | Gwen John attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London between 1895 and 1898, and studied briefly in Paris. In 1903, she accompanied Dorelia McNeill on a walking tour through France. By the beginning of 1904, she had settled in Paris.

<p>Full title: Jean Straker, Photographer. Jean Straker was born in London in 1913. During the Second World War, Straker, a conscientious objector, worked as a photographer. Jean soon discovered how great the need was for detailed, speedy medical photography, particularly of surgical procedures. There were numerous emergency operations performed during the air raid years and operating techniques were changing and developing rapidly. Photographs, particularly those in sequence, were of the utmost value, as records and in the teaching hospitals as teaching aids. Abandoning commercial photography in 1951 Jean set up The "Academy of Visual Arts". Members had access to exhibitions resulting from its program of lecture-demonstrations. In 1951, he opened the Visual Arts Club at Studio House, 12 Soho Square, for "artists and photographers, amateur and professional, studying the female nude". Six years in 1961, officers from Scotland Yard, acting on a tip of from the Italian Police, visited Straker. In 1961, police raided Studio House and took a number of prints and negatives that they considered obscene. Straker stood trial in 1962, he defended himself and despite arguing that his photographs were "of artistic value", he lost the case and forfeited all the prints and negatives that were confiscated. But on appeal to The House of Lords this conviction was squashed. This case lead to changes in the Censorship Laws in 1965.</p>

<p>Roedd Nerys Johnson, a anwyd ym Mae Colwyn, yn guradur ac artist uchel ei pharch. Roedd hi’n byw gydag arthritis rhiwmatoid, salwch cynyddol a chronig sy’n achosi poen, chwydd ac anhyblygrwydd yn y cymalau. O ganlyniad, daeth ei gwaith yn llai o ran maint a daeth mwy o ffocws i’w gwaith wrth i’w symudedd gyfyngu. Yma, mae Johnson yn defnyddio lliwiau cefndir tywyll a gofod negyddol i bwysleisio disgleirdeb lliw a strwythur ffurfiau. Blodau oedd prif destun celf Nerys Johnson, yn enwedig yn neg mlynedd olaf ei bywyd. Yn y cyfnod hwn, roedd yn gaeth i’r tŷ fel arfer, ond roedd hi’n dal yn gallu cael gafael ar flodau fel testun brasluniau a phaentiadau. Roedd hi wrth ei bodd â’u lliwiau, gan gyfeirio at flodau fel ‘bocs paent byd natur’. Ei ffefrynnau i’w paentio oedd ‘y rhai gyda lliw cryf a ffurf drawiadol, fel tiwlipau, artisiogau, blodau haul, gerbera, pabïau, lilis ac irisau’. ‘Mae blodau wedi bod yn ffynhonnell bwysig o ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer fy ngwaith ers amser maith. Mae nhw’n fyw, a dwi’n ceisio cyfleu y bywyd hwnnw. Maen nhw’n tyfu, yn newid, yn p ydru ac yn transnewid. Mewn braslun, caiff ymdeimlad o symudiadau, strwythur a rhythmau eu cyfleu drwy farciau a llinellau; mewn paentiad, caiff ei gyfleu drwy gydbwysedd a chyferbyniad lliwiau’. - Nerys Johnson</p>
