Sarcophagus

Small sarcophagus for a child, red Etruria marl, rectangular with curved sides, flat base, vertical slightly concave sides with a rough horizontal seam line halfway up, the overlapping lid flat with two stepped lengthwise ridges and a thick locating flange on the underside.

<p>Floating cinerary jar with cover in orange-brown Etruria marl with visible inclusions, unglazed, the ground formed of a wooden base and back covered with buff-coloured Venetian plaster, the jar with a flat base and oval cross-section, tapering sides and flat shoulders with circular inset cover, the body has two evenly spaced, concentric, horizontal 'ribs' around its circumference, these have been left in a relatively unfinished state in some areas and small scrpaings of clay are visible, the plaster base is constructed in wood with a layer of Venetian plaster on the visible faces and has a flat platform and perpendicular back.</p>

<p>Large lidded jar, reduced etruria marl, unglazed, narrow circular base with straight tapering sides giving an overall conical form, four horizontal 'ribs' evenly spaced around the body with deliberately rough finish, resulting in small protrusions or 'scrapings' of fired clay around each rib, the cover is flat with three circular 'ribs' and a flange to the interior; the surface finished with linseed oil.</p>
